How do I see the real time remaining on a YouTube video at 2× speed?
Install True Watch Time from the Chrome Web Store. It overlays a pill on the YouTube player showing the speed-adjusted remaining time, and updates live whenever you change the playback speed. A 20-minute video at 2× speed will correctly show 10 minutes remaining.
Does True Watch Time work on YouTube live streams?
Yes. Live streams are detected automatically and shown with a LIVE badge instead of a countdown timer.
Does the extension collect any data?
No. True Watch Time stores your display preferences locally in chrome.storage.sync and has no analytics, no tracking, and no remote servers. The only permissions it requests are storage and access to youtube.com.
Is True Watch Time free?
Yes. True Watch Time is completely free, with no ads, no upsells, and no pro tier. It is open source on GitHub.
Does it support YouTube playlists?
Yes. When you are watching a playlist, True Watch Time shows your current position and the total remaining time across all videos left in the playlist, adjusted for your playback speed.
